VRIKSHAPOOJA HELD FOR THE CONSERVATION OF TREES

Vrikshapooja started at the grounds of “Ernakulathappan Temple” from October 1 and will be heldtill October 4. Prayers and pooja were performed on 28 herbal plants including ‘Koovalam’, ‘Ilanji’, ‘Plashu’, ‘Karingali’, ‘Njaval’, ‘Ashokam’, ‘Dhantapala’, ‘Pathimukham’ and ‘Aryavepp’. Akhila Kerala Thantri Samajam said “The Yagna conveys the message to conserve trees, especially herbal trees, and to remind the society that trees are gifts of nature”.

The Yagna will be performed under the guidance of Malliyoor Mahaganapathi Temple Thantri Manayathaat Aaryan Namboothiripad, Mannapullikaavu Temple Thantri Kariyanoor Vasudevan Namboothiri and Vaikom Mahadeva Temple Thantri Kizhkkinniyetath Meykatt Madhavan Namboothiripad. Puliyanoor Shashi Namboothiripad, Thrikkaramanna Sudheesh Bhattathiripad, Chennas Narayanan Namboothiripad and Puliyanoor Prashanth Narayanan Namboothiripad will also assist in conducting the rites to be carried out as part of the pooja. In a formal function held on Sunday, Principal Chief Conservator Dr B S Corrie handed over the plants to Justice R Bhaskaran, as part of the yagna.
