Migratory birds plummeted for this winter

As most of the water bodies are fast drying up this year, the migratory birds from European countries may skip flying to recent regions of Mysore. The rainfall this year was higher than normal in the region and as such the major reservoirs got filled up. But major portion of the water was diverted to irrigate standing crops. Consequently lakes got dried up and this will impact on migratory birds population. The number of lakes has also deteriorated to two to three from ten. Forest Department to be strict with tourists : Kerala High Court

The forest department was ordered to prohibit tourists from taking alcohols to Athirapally – Vazhachal tourist spot. Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice A M Shaffique issued the directive on a petition filed by P M Purushothaman, former president of Athirappilly gram panchayat, seeking a directive to the state to prevent smoking and use of alcoholic beverages inside the forests surrounding the waterfall. Resident’s association about to plant saplings as a part of greening the city. They have agreed to a proposal form the Social Forestry (SF) wing to plant saplings in their respective areas. The Kerala High Court on Thursday directed the State Government and the Transport Commissioner to file objection statements or affidavits in response to a petition against the order to cancel licenses of two-wheeler riders driving without helmets. Around 100 animals are affected by FMD, and nearly 1,000 cases have been reported in the state.
